President Dwight D. Eisenhower once said: “In preparing for battle, I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable”. In his time (until 1969); Dwight was Right: Paper plans are static and therefore dead. In the current era, project schedules can be online, can be up-to-date all the time and can have predictive power in terms of total cost and finish date. Project models like that are useful; if Dwight were still alive he may have admitted: “I have found that planning is indispensable and that online plans are the critical success factor.”
